It's less than a week till Mother's Day: here's brunch spots plus fun things to do with Mom

Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 12. This is your friendly reminder to make sure you make plans, order flowers and buy a gift for the special woman in your life.

It's also graduation and wedding season, so it's easy to forget the one who makes it all happen for us.

If you haven't made plans or if you haven't ordered flowers yet, we've got some places for you to take mom out for brunch, plus a bunch of fun activities that you can do with Mom, Grandma or your favorite aunt.

Head to brunch

The Killingly Grange, 801 Hartford Turnpike, Dayville. Saturday, May 11, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $10 per person, and all mothers will receive a plant. Reservations are required; call 860-884-1813.

Black Pond Brews, 1001 Hartford Pike, Dayville. Sunday at 11 a.m. Entree options include southern fried chicken and waffles, crepes with cream cheese and mixed berry compote, or a prime rib egg and cheese sandwich. For $20, you can get a bottomless Bloody Mary or mimosa.

The Spa at Norwich Inn, 607 W. Thames St., Norwich. Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

The Mother’s Day Prix Fixe Brunch includes appetizers like mocha pancakes, butternut squash clam chowder or smoked salmon, and everything seasoned cream cheese crepes. Entree options include prime rib, croque madame or Nutella-stuffed French toast.

The cost is $68 per person, includes complimentary mimosa, and $22 for children 5 to 12; under 5 are complimentary. Reservations recommended.

Take Mom tulip picking

Wicked Tulips, 382 Route 164, Preston, is a great place to take mom to celebrate.

Adult tickets are $23 and include 10 tulips; children's tickets are $5. Children’s tickets do not include tulips, but may be purchased for $1 each. You can wrap your own tulips, or allow the staff to do so for a fee, which includes a charity donation.

As of Monday, tickets are available on both Saturday and Sunday, but they do tend to sell out. Reservations are required and are specific to the date and time.

Paint and plant

DiRoma Home and Garden Center, 1111 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, is inviting families to paint a flowerpot and plant a flower for Mom on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children will be given a pot to paint and can pick a flower to plant in it. The cost is $7 and covers all supplies.

Connecticut Sun vs. Indiana Fever, Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville. May 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The WBNA opens its season on May 14, just two days after Mom’s big day, and the CT Sun are hosting the league’s No. 1 draft pick, Caitlyn Clark, and the Indiana Fever to kick off the season.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, the Sun's official ticket vendor, and other resellers. As of Monday, ticket prices start at $170, although if you want to spoil Mom, courtside seats could be had for just under $3,500.
