Laura Dern and Taylor Swift

During a new interview, Laura Dern shared her honest thoughts about Taylor Swift’s skills as a filmmaker while addressing the potential for a collaboration sometime in the future.

The Academy Award-winning actress previously starred in Swift’s “Bejeweled” music video, which the pop star released in October 2022. For the song off her award-winning 2022 album Midnights, Swift enlisted the Marriage Story actress to play a wicked stepmother-type figure. The “Cruel Summer” singer also starred alongside the Haim sisters, producer Jack Antonoff and others.

For the new interview, Dern spoke with The Wrap’s podcast, Unwrapped, alongside her business partner, Jayme Lemons. Dern and Lemons launched their own production company, Jaywalker Pictures, in 2017, and are now the executive producers of the new AppleTV+ show Palm Royale.

When asked whether the duo would consider bringing Swift into the fold for a future movie or show, Lemons came up with a working title on the spot. “Jaywalker (Taylor’s Version)?” she suggested, a nod to Swift’s efforts to identify re-recorded versions of her earlier albums as “Taylor’s Version” of the material.

Dern then suggested she would be open to collaborating with Swift again.

“Wherever she wants to go, I’ll show up,” Dern said. “I love her.”

The Big Little Lies actress then shared what she believes about Swift’s filmmaking skills after watching Swift direct the “Bejeweled” music video.

“She is a real deal—on top of everything else amazing that she does and is—a real deal filmmaker, which I got to experience firsthand,” Dern said. "I’m excited to watch that part of her journey, wherever she continues to take it.”

For now, it doesn’t seem like Swift will have too much extra time on her hands. Although she is on a break from her international Eras Tour, the “Anti-Hero” songstress is preparing to release a new album before the tour resumes in May.

Swift’s 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department, which she announced while receiving an award for Midnights at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February, drops on April 19.
