Lamar City Park blossoms with help from Girl Scout volunteers

LAMAR, Mo. — A group of local Girl Scouts spend part of their “Earth Day”, volunteering at Lamar City Park.

Girl Scouts in Lamar have adopted a flower bed in Lamar City Park.

This evening around 10 seven-year-olds seeking an Earth Day badge got their hands dirty planting a series of hydrangeas and other colorful flowers – which they will care for, throughout their time in the Girl Scouts.

The goal is to learn a lifelong skill – and learn the importance of plant life in a healthy ecosystem.

“We timed it so that it was around Earth Day, that they could plant this flower bed and they are going to continue to take care of it throughout their time in Girl Scouts,” said Heidi Johnson, Lamar Parks & Rec. Dir.

“It’s like, it’s like planting and we’re – and I’m pretty sure we should be watering them by now,” said Delacour Mathia, Lamar Girl Scout.

The girls plan on checking back in on the flower bed throughout the next several weeks.
