On April 28, California residents came across a tiny kitten trapped under a sidewalk in Santa Ana. However, after several failed attempts, they had to call the local fire station to the rescue. When all else failed, the firefighters cracked open a can of tuna to rescue the trapped kitten, as per The Sacramento Bee.

Firefighters rescue kitten from under a sidewalk in California

A group of residents spotted a trapped kitten on Sunday in Santa Ana, California. The people tried to rescue the feline on their own. However, after the little one evaded their efforts, they had to call in the Orange County Fire Authority. The cat was trapped below a sidewalk and needed to be lifted out of the space under the street.

According to the fire station’s post on X — formerly known as Twitter — a “can of tuna” and “a meow sound” clip they picked from YouTube came in handy for the rescue. In the video, the box used to lift the kitten out of the space can be seen. The firefighters used a filing box with a rope tied to the handle to rescue the kitten.

The fire station noted the tricky situation needed some creativity. Moreover, in the video, a firefighter’s hands can be seen hovering over the rope attached to the box in hopes of quickly lifting the kitten up if they happen to wander into it. The Orange County Fire Authority revealed that they safely rescued the kitten with next to no injuries. They have also already found a foster home for the little one.

Everybody can be a local cat hero, and one just needs to apply to volunteer at their local animal shelter or foster a litter of little ones as kitten season is upon us.
