I’m an ice-cream-all-year type of gal — there’s never a wrong time for ice cream — but frozen treats just hit differently in the middle of a sweltering summer. I’m so ready to start spending my weekends out in the sun, relaxing in the park, and running over to an ice cream shop at the end of the day. As any sweet treat lover will tell you, though, purchasing one every so often can end up making a serious dent in your wallet. Just yesterday, I bought a pint of Ben & Jerry’s at the bodega, and I had to fork over $8. As much as I love a good pint, I don’t think I can justify buying it from the store anymore.

However, there’s another option that’s just as good (if not better) and won’t cost an arm and a leg. You guessed it: I’m talking about homemade ice cream. You don’t have to sacrifice a huge portion of your kitchen to a full-sized ice cream maker if you already have a KitchenAid stand mixer on your counter. The brand has a nifty ice cream maker attachment that several of our editors swear by — and it’s on sale for $70. You’ll get an ice cream scoop as a bonus, too! New QVC customers get an even better deal: The code HELLO20 takes off an extra $20. Either way, it’s a major score, because you’ll end up saving a ton of money in the long run.

What Is the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment with Ice Cream Scoop?

Our former Tools Editor, Ridley, said that the ice cream this gadget makes is “delicious and creamy and perfectly churned in about 30 minutes.” That’s enough to sell me. All you have to do is freeze the bowl 15 to 24 hours before, and twist the paddle onto the beater shaft. (Check out these instructions for some help.) It’s compatible with all of the brand’s mixers except the Artisan Mini and some Refurbished models.

Former Food Editor Meghan used the attachment to make her favorite coffee ice cream, which had a soft-serve consistency when done — conveniently, it makes a “clicking sound when the ice cream has reached max thickness for the machine,” so you know exactly when to move it over to the freezer. A few hours later you’ll have a perfect batch made exactly to your preferences, and you can scoop it out with the included tool. According to Meghan, any leftovers you have will keep in the freezer for about two weeks.

What QVC Shoppers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4.3/5

“I had been shopping around for an ice cream maker recently, and then I saw this on QVC! One of the issues I had was that I really don’t have room to use or store another kitchen appliance … but I do own a KitchenAid stand mixer! This was a less expensive alternative to buying another appliance! I love the bowl. I have a freezer in my garage, and have plenty of room in there for the bowl. I made vanilla ice cream with it for the first time using a recipe I found online. It came out in 20 minutes, soft-serve consistency; I ate a bowl of it and stored the rest in the freezer for later. Delicious!” —Live4roses

“I was hesitant to invest in this product but so happy I purchased it. Easy to use. Made delicious ice cream. Looking forward to making more ice cream. My family raved at how easy and delicious the ice cream turned out.” —Marissav4

“I have such fond memories of making ice cream with my grandmother as a kid. Back then it required an electric churn on the back porch, an extension cord, bags of ice, and rock salt. This gives the exact same results, but with no mess! It’s very easy to attach to my tilt back mixer, and all I have to do is wash the dasher and bowl, pop it back in the freezer, and it’s ready to go. As for the dasher, yes, it’s plastic, but it’s very heavy-duty. I expect it will last a very long time. And be sure to check the dimensions in the product description if you think it might not fit in your freezer. We have a very standard freezer and it fits just fine.” —chadrick

This easy-to-use gadget will save you money and space this summer, so snagging it while it’s on sale is really a no-brainer. Plus, homemade ice cream always tastes better, right?
