Kingsport residents use warm weather as a reason to go outside

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)—Now that Memorial Day weekend is here, many are starting to take advantage of the sun and spend the day outside.

On Sunday, Warriors Path State Park was buzzing with activity. Many families spent time at the park’s boundless playground, including Kingsport residents Hunter and Ashley Blakley.

“They have a really good playground,” said Ashley. “We just wanted to let [our daughter] get outside and enjoy the weather a little bit.

The Blakleys used the nice weather to help their daughter, Scarlett, get used to being outdoors.

“[We] just let her get to enjoy the weather,” said Ashley. “And we just want her to have a childhood like we had, getting to spend a lot of time outdoors.”

While the Blakleys were on the playground, others took to the waters to go boating or fishing at the lake. For Stacy Kimbler, the weather was a reason to get away from his home and get outside.

“[I’ve] been cooped up and working too much,” Kimbler said. “And [I] got a long weekend so I thought this would be a good time.

Kimbler and his daughter traveled to Warriors for an afternoon of fishing, something Kimbler enjoys.

“It’s good to get away from the house and not have nothing to do,” Kimbler said.

Kimbler said the upcoming holiday is just another reason for his decision to go fishing.

“Any time [there’s] a three-day weekend you always get more involved with things,” Kimbler said.

Kingsport natives weren’t the only ones taking advantage of the parks. Those traveling in from out of town found the perfect camping spot at the state park for the weekend.

“We’re not really the kind of hikers that go backpacking,” said Rhonda Ramsey. “We just would like to sit around and whip something up to eat and hang out.”

“It’s very peaceful,” said Kimberly Torres. “We’re right here next to the field so we were able to see a bunch of deer.”
