The latest trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is actually more of an extended clip offering three minutes of fresh footage.

It begins with an action-packed chase scene as a band of apes, led by a terrifying gorilla, pursue a band of ragged-looking humans down a dried-out riverbed.

They snag a few of them in nets before following the remaining stragglers into a tall field, where the female protagonist played by Freya Allen (The Witcher) crouches low to avoid detection.

She does have one saviour though: a friendly ape, who speeds his horse towards Allen in an attempt to save her before the gorilla reaches her. It ends with a dramatic last-second leap.

Directed by Wes Ball, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. “As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire,” says the synopsis, “one young ape will undertake a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”

The film stars Freya Allan, William H. Macy, Dichen Lachman, Kevin Durand, Owen Teague, Peter Macon, and Travis Jeffery.
