Mountain biking is an incredibly expensive sport. Still, it is very easy to get desensitized to how much we spend on luxury outdoor equipment.
Sometimes it takes the bewilderment of an outsider looking at prices to bring us back to reality. It is even better when this outsider has no filter. Watch kids react to mountain bike prices below.
In this video, the YouTube channel Mahalo My Dude assembled kids and asked them the prices for items, Though their guesses were all over the place, their astonishment with the prices showed.
Many mountain bikers definitely need this kick in the tail. It is a sign of a problem when you call a $500 set of brakes that will marginally increase performance a “good deal.”
This video brings up a good idea. Before every bike purchase, riders should go before a tribunal of family members with normal hobbies who know nothing about the sport like a meat-smoking uncle or a knitting great aunt. If the purchase cannot sufficiently be defended it should not be made.
