KFC's Latest Monstrous Creation is a Fried Chicken Pizza

Americans are finally getting a taste of KFC's "Chizza" fried chicken pizza. The exclusive menu item, which first debuted in the Philippines in 2015 before making its way around the world to Korea, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Germany, Spain, and Mexico, will be available in the United States for a limited time starting Feb. 26.

Similar to the chain's much-hyped Double Down, the Chizza consists of two white-meat Extra Crispy fried chicken filets topped with marinara sauce, melted mozzarella, and pepperoni. The Double Down, on the other hand, which debuted in the U.S. in April 2010 before being revived for a limited time last March, was marketed as a "bunless" sandwich featuring two Extra Crispy white-meat filets, two slices of cheese, two pieces of crispy, hickory-smoked bacon, and either the Colonel's mayo or spicy sauce.

"Fried chicken and pizza collaborated to create something even better—the Chizza," said KFC's U.S. Chief Marketing Officer Nick Chavez in a press release this week. "The fan-favorite mashup is finally available in the U.S. after making its way around the world—try it while you can!"

The Chizza can be purchased as an a la carte menu item or as part of a combo meal which includes KFC's Secret Recipe Fries and a medium drink.

However, those who live in or in proximity to New York City can try the Chizza early. KFC is launching a "Chizzeria" pop-up at the chain's 242 E 14th Street location in Manhattan on Friday, Feb. 23 through Saturday, Feb. 24 to give out free samples to customers who will get to try Chizza for free before the nationwide launch.

It's unclear how long KFC will carry the Chizza, so better get it while you can, and keep your cardiologist on call.
