Yesterday was a meaningful day for fans of the late great Kobe Bryant. February 8, 2024 (2-8-24) highlighted Bryant's two jersey numbers from his NBA career as well as his daughter Gigi's AAU jersey number.

To remember the legacy of Kobe and Gigi, Nike released sneakers and apparel. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers unveiled the first of three statues honoring the five-time NBA champion.

The tributes went beyond the sports world as the award-winning rapper and Compton native Kendrick Lamar wore some of Bryant's most iconic sneakers during his Super Bowl kickoff performance. Check out the Instagram post below for a detailed look.

Any basketball fan or sneakerhead will be quick to identify those as the Nike Kobe 6 Protros in the 'Grinch' colorway. Despite their easy recognition, the classic hoop shoes are rare and extremely expensive.

The Nike Kobe 6 Protro 'Grinch' was released in December 2020 (ten years after Bryant originally debuted the shoes in a Christmas Day game against LeBron James and the Miami Heat).

After launching with a retail price of $190, the Kobe 6 'Grinch' sneakers now have an average resale price of $847 on the sneaker resale website StockX. That is a lot of money to spend on shoes for anyone, even if you are a chart-topping rapper.

We salute Kendrick Lamar for continuing to represent Kobe and his hometown. Stay locked into Men's Journal Sneakers for all your footwear news.
