The Kansas City Chiefs are sounding off on the relationship between their tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift. After accepting Travis’ invitation to Arrowhead, Swift made a memorable impression at Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, decked out in team colors and cheering wildly next to Kelce’s mom, Donna, in a VIP box.

Even as the Chiefs prevailed over Chicago with a resounding 41–10 win, helped in large part by a three-yard touchdown pass that Kelce grabbed late in the third quarter, Swift was the main topic of discussion before, during, and after the game.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who initiated the TD Kelce intercepted, admitted post-game that he felt some pressure from Taylor’s fans, dubbed “Swifties,” to make his teammate look good. “I felt a little bit of pressure, so I knew I had to get it to Travis,” he said with a smile on his face. “Of course, Travis does his own thing and just makes up a route and I throw it to him. So, I think he wanted to get in the end zone just as much as the Swifties wanted him to.”

At a press conference after the game, Mahomes said he wasn’t sure Kelce was being serious about Swift’s attendance. “There’s some things with Trav where he kinda just says it and you don’t know if it’s true or not. He says it so calmly. Friday he was just like, ‘Yeah I think she’s coming to the game this weekend,’ and then moved about his business.”

At the same conference, Chiefs coach Andy Reid joked that the entire relationship was his doing. “You know what, I’ve met her before,” he told reporters. “I set them up, I’ll just leave you with that.”

Other Chiefs players didn’t hesitate to weigh in on Swelce. “I don’t know what he got going on, but happy for him regardless of what he got on,” defensive end George Karlaftis told reporters. After the game, defensive tackle Chris Jones tweeted: Let’s goooooooooo! I’m bumping Taylor Swift tonight!”

Swift and Kelce have yet to officially define their relationship. But judging by Swift’s recent impact on voter registration, this could be the most-watched NFL season of all time.
