Jennifer Lopez has been keeping busy in and out of the gym. In February 2024, she dropped her first album in a decade, This Is Me…Now, along with her musical film, This Is Me... Now: A Love Story. Now, she’s got a new movie called Atlas that’s about to drop on Netflix (and is set to co-chair the 2024 Met Gala this May), proving it’s nearly impossible to slow her down.

And while this 54-year-old clearly isn’t messing around with her career, she’s equally devoted to her workouts. J.Lo’s gym routine is something to behold, and she regularly drops snippets from her sweat sessions on Instagram. On the off chance you don't have hours to spend scrolling through her feed, though, here's a highlight reel of every important thing she's said about her workout routine so far. (And FYI—her ab workout is not for the feint of heart.)

She's All About The Abs

J.Lo doesn't mess around when it comes to core strength. Her typical ab workout starts with a set of 50 hanging ab raises, 50 rope crunches, and 50 incline sit ups with a 45-pound plate, her trainer told O, the Oprah Magazine in 2019. The operative word here is starts... Here's the Jennifer Lopez abs workout in its entirety.

Set 1: 50 hanging ab raises. 50 rope crunches. 50 incline sit-ups with a 45 pound plate.

Set 2: Everything from the first set but with 35 reps.

Set 3: Same thing, but with 21 reps this time.

J.Lo Enjoys Full-Body Circuit Training

In March 2024, J.Lo casually dropped video of herself doing a full-body workout outside on Instagram, and it looks surprisingly doable. In the video, Jenny can be seen working through eight exercises to target her arms, legs, and core, all with the help of a set of dumbbells and a yoga mat.

The circuit included lateral raises, squat presses, lunges, bicep curls, and reverse crunches, all of which she sailed through (like the pro she is).

She Likes To Focus On The 'Three Bs' During Workouts

Before a performance on her It's My Party tour in 2019, J.Lo posted an IG Story of her pre-show prep workout. There, she noted three muscle groups in particular she likes to focus on during workouts: biceps, back, and booty. Not a bad trio, TBH.

J.Lo Doesn't Do Rest Days

Consistency is key when it comes to maintaining strength, endurance, and yes, abs. So Jennifer "very rarely skips a workout," she revealed to Us Weekly in 2015. Five years laters, she told the publication she likes to break a sweat “first thing in the morning,” no matter the day. “I try to make good choices and balance my time,” she adds.

One of her trainers, David Kirsch, confirmed as much to People in 2017: "She’s gifted with an incredible amount of physical energy, but also this beautiful amount of mental and emotional energy. She’s very connected to her body, and she’s got crazy discipline."

She Works Out For Her Mental Health

J.Lo doesn't just work out for the physical gains—she appreciates the mental ones, too. "Sometimes when I get home and I'm not feeling so great, I make myself go to the gym," J.Lo told Redbook in 2010. "Then I come home...and I feel pepped up and great about myself." Endorphins are real, y'all.

Jennifer Leaves It All On the Dance Floor (And Gym Floor)

J.Lo loves to go back to her dancing roots, using the art as a mood-booster. "I am 100 percent convinced that working out is part of what makes me so happy," J.Lo told HELLO! in 2016. "Dance has always been a huge part of my life."

"There's something about seeing what my body is capable of and feeling the endorphin rush that comes with a good dance session that really helps boost my confidence and my mood," she added. "I still consider myself a dancer at heart, and I love it."

She's A Fan Of Pole Workouts

J.Lo played a stripper-turned-extortionist in Hustlers, and the experience made her have more respect for people who pole dance."It's, like, acrobatic, it's a different muscle group," she said on Jimmy Kimmel. "And the things that they do with their legs and everything and go upside down...it's hard." Because of the physical demands, she says: "I have a lot of respect for people who do the pole."

J.Lo Always Has Goals

How does J.Lo stay accountable when it comes to working out—even with an insane schedule? Well, this IG from 2018 offers a clue. "Feeling like superwoman after the show tonight!" she wrote in her caption. "When I started this run I thought omg 15 shows in 27 days that’s a lot... but I made a promise to myself that instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it...I will work out and be in the best shape of my life." Clearly, J.Lo is not afraid of commitment.

She Doesn't Skip Warm-Ups

J.Lo puts her full self into her workouts, one of her trainers—the famous Tracy Anderson, to be clear—says. “I do an upper body warmup with her,” Tracy told People in 2016. “We do two songs without weights, and then we add three-pound weights, and sometimes I add a song with five-pound weights as well.”

Jennifer Prioritizes Sleep

Lack of sleep doesn’t help anyone, and that’s a fact that J.Lo is well aware of. “The number one tip is to always get enough sleep,” she told InStyle, per Grazia. “I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight.”

That dedication to her sleep schedule was brought on by a bad experience. “There was a time in my life where I used to sleep three to five hours a night,” she said in a 2022 newsletter, per Us Weekly. But one day, she said she felt “frozen” from all of the work, stress, and lack of sleep. “I thought I was losing my mind," she added. "Now I know it was a classic panic attack brought on by exhaustion."

She's Into Fitness Apps

When she's away from her home gym and personal trainers, Jennifer does what anyone with a smartphone does when they want to work out: She uses a fitness app. Specifically, she's shouted out the Fitplan app, touting its ability to motivate her.

J.Lo Uses Fitness Challenges To Prep For Big Events

Back in 2019, Jennifer and ARod revealed they completed a 10-day fitness challenge before their wedding, cutting sugar and carbs. (They split in 2021.)

J.Lo also prefers to work out before big performances or events. In the past, she's shared that she hit the gym ahead of hosting Saturday Night Live and the 2020 Golden Globe Awards.

She Mixes Things Up

J.Lo is constantly changing her workouts to stay pumped about what she’s doing. “I’m always evolving and looking for things that keep me excited and motivated,” she told Us Weekly in 2023. “I’m not afraid to challenge myself, so I’m open to pushing myself, which is what I’m doing right now.”

J.Lo Used To Do TrueFusion Workouts With ARod

Back when Jennifer was engaged to baseball player Alex Rodriguez, the couple loved TrueFusion, which is described as a blend of hot yoga and bootcamp. "It's the best workout I've ever had in my entire life," Alex told People in 2018.

She Knows Her Preferred Routine

Jennifer doesn't kid herself about her workouts. "You got to work out, you got to watch what you eat," she told Us Weekly in 2014. "It's a job—you've got to buckle down."
