Jane Seymour is reflecting on just how special Dick Van Dyke is—something fans of the legendary star already know and a fact that was emphasized on Thursday’s Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, a special tribute to the actor who celebrated his 98th birthday on Dec. 13.

During the broadcast, the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman actress recalled a time when she encountered the star turning the local supermarket into his very own stage.

"I would go to the local grocery store, pushing a trolley, and coming towards me I saw Dick Van Dyke,” she explained.

“Well, of course I wondered if it was really him, but then people would surround him, and he'd suddenly break out into a little song and dance,” she added, noting that it was “amazing.”

“But anyway, I went back the next day, and he was back again, and I said, 'What's going on?' And he said, 'My wife always needs something. She sends me out every day.' He loved it. He turned the grocery store into his stage."

The TV icon and the 72-year-old actress are longtime friends and even co-starred in the 2018 film Buttons: A Christmas Tale.

Most recently, the duo were seen celebrating Halloween together at his annual private Halloween party at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. The photo, shared to Seymour’s Instagram, also included stars Amy Manford and William Joseph, who both shared clips from the memorable festivities, hailing Van Dyke for “knowing how to throw a Halloween Bash!”

Seymour praised the Dick Van Dyke Show star for putting on the most “amazing Halloween haunted house you've ever seen,” noting that “It's a full-on production.”

It seems that despite his age, Van Dyke is a child at heart who loves to have fun, recently visiting Disneyland with his wife Arelene Silver, 52, prior to his birthday.

As for how he stays in such good spirits, the Mary Poppins actor took to Instagram to share his “secrets to living well,” which include “Positivity, don’t go down the stairs sideways, and just keep moving!"

He also makes it a point to stay as physically active and fit as possible, with fans recently catching him on his way to the gym prior to turning the big 9-8, something he does about three times a week.

The TV tribute was much-deserved as for more than seven decades, the Golden Globe, Tony, Grammy and Emmy award-winning performer dazzled audiences on stage, TV and film, inspiring people to "put on a happy face."

The two-hour CBS special featured dance and musical performances from his legendary career—like Bye Bye Birdie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang–along with special appearances by the likes of Julie Andrews, Mel Brooks, Carol Burnett and more.

Van Dyke said the production of the whole special has “blown me away.”
