Almost everyone has felt the sting of a backhanded compliment – also known as “negging” – the practice of saying something negative dressed up as a compliment. It doesn’t feel good. It’s not supposed to.

When model and body activist Iskra Lawrence was on the receiving end of a direct message from a stranger on the internet telling her she’d be perfect if she had “bigger tits,” she didn’t internalize that comment. She posted the message on her Instagram Stories with a spot-on response, reminding all women that they are “perfectly imperfect just the way u are.”

She completed the message with a few illustrations of different types of breasts women come by naturally, an extended middle finger emoji, and a crying laughing emoji.

Just last night, Lawrence came through drippin’ at her first appearance at the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival. She walked the red carpet for the screening of “Sink or Swim” (“Le Grand Bain”) during the festival at the Palais des Festivals in a custom gown from designer Justin Alexander.

Known for unapologetically being herself — from posting unedited photos on her Instagram with the hashtag #cellulit to encouraging self-love in others with her body-positive platform everyBODYwithiskrathe model was feeling her look in a video she shared.

Lawrence’s reminder to always love yourself as you are is something she clearly practices.
