As much as we adore forecasting upcoming trends here at The Spruce, we love seeing those trends executed in real life even more.

From stunning rooms painted with surprising hues to outdoor spaces decked with the latest looks, it’s always exciting to watch designers implement an idea and make it shine.

Recently, we connected with acclaimed interior designer Adam Hunter to discuss the trends he loves and has been using in his professional designs so far this year.

Metal Kitchens

If you’re tired of the farmhouse and country kitchen trend, this contemporary twist is definitely for you. As Hunter points out, metal kitchens are the perfect blend of function and modern aesthetics.

“The durability and ease of maintenance are major functional benefits, especially in a busy household where the kitchen sees a lot of use,” he says.

Aesthetically, metal kitchens are sleek with reflective surfaces, which Hunter says can transform the room into a bright, inviting space. But when it comes down to functional benefits, he loves the hygienic surfaces and their ability to withstand high temperatures.

Best of all, metal kitchens don’t need to be exclusive to urban high-rises. They’re perfect for anyone who loves home cooking and entertaining—and wants to blend them into one beautiful space.

“The modern and sometimes industrial look of metal kitchens can be beautifully integrated into various design themes, making them a versatile choice for many homes,” he says.

Quiet Luxury

By now, we’re all fairly well-versed in the idea of quiet luxury trend that first took TikTok by storm. According to Hunter, this design concept goes beyond warm neutrals and textured layers.

In his designs, quiet luxury is all about sustainable materials, subtle but smart tech, and a sense of nostalgia.

“Quiet luxury, to me, embodies the use of high-quality materials like wood, stone, glass, metal, and natural fabrics,” Hunter says.

Yes, understated and neutral palettes are a must, but Hunter notes this is about the feelings they evoke as the materials themselves.

"Quiet luxury embraces a sense of tranquility and elegance through its subtle, unobtrusive colors, textures, and clean silhouettes."

Dimensional Rugs

Area rugs can be a decidedly tricky thing to get right, and that might be because there are a few key rules to follow. But as Hunter points out, the latest trend isn’t just about the size and space your rug covers. It’s also about their height—known in the carpet and rug world as the pile.

While rugs with a lower pile have long been on-trend, Hunter says plusher and more dimensional rugs are the perfect way to enhance a sense of luxury in your home. That's because they add instant depth to a room, which ultimately leads to a more inviting space.

So, where to start? With your fibers, Hunter says.

“Know your fibers—silk and wool are usually the best blends,” he says. “Take off your shoes and try the rugs, especially when looking for living room and bedroom rugs.”

Along with the knowledge of what you're looking for, Hunter also suggests going with your room measurements in hand. To successfully pull off this trend, select one that’s both large and deep enough for pure luxury.
