If you’re lucky enough to have Ina Garten cook for you then you probably already know you’re about to eat one of the best meals of your life. So it was no surprise to Jennifer Garner that Garten one-upped her grandmother’s classic cornbread recipe and made something that Garner said is “the best thing I’ve ever had.” Apologies to Grandma, but no one can compete with the cooking queen.

“I updated Jennifer Garner’s grandmother’s cornbread recipe on the first episode of #BeMyGuest Season 4, which airs today at 12 pm on @foodnetwork and @streamonmax!!” Garten wrote in a recent Instagram caption. “We had the best time and my Brown Butter Skillet Cornbread with flaked sea salt on top wasn’t bad either.”

“What in the world? Is there salt on top?” Garner asked Garten when taking her first bites of the cornbread (there is salt on top, by the way). She continued, “Okay, this is a whole other bubble bath. It tastes like the best thing I’ve ever had in my whole life.”

As the name suggests, this recipe starts with browning two sticks of butter in a cast iron skillet. You then whisk milk into the browned butter before adding eggs.

In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt, and make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients once combined. Pour the milk, butter, and egg mixture into that well and mix everything until just combined (lumps are okay). Let the batter rest for about 15 minutes.

Give the batter a final stir and transfer it back into the cast iron skillet, smoothing the top, and add a pinch or two of flaky sea salt to top it off. Bake for about a half hour, then you’re ready to serve.

This cornbread recipe makes an excellent side, but it can also be enjoyed on its own with a cup of coffee. It’s rich, buttery, and packed with savory flavor that you won’t be able to get enough of. Grab the full recipe here to give it a try!
