I'm a shopping writer, and these Hailey Bieber-approved, reusable under-eye masks are helping me de-puff in 2024

The Dieux eye mask is more eco-friendly than single-use ones, and it works!

I live in the Northeast, and frigid temps are here in full force. Cue: my perpetually-dry skin feeling even more parched than usual. And with each passing year, I notice one (well, two) areas in particular becoming more flaky — my under-eyes. Sprinkle in a healthy dose of a.m. puffiness and I've got one pretty darn sleep-deprived-looking face. I know under-eye masks are all the rage on social media, but I couldn't justify shelling out for non-eco-friendly single-use pairs. So when I saw these reusable Dieux Forever Eye Masks grace my TikTok feed, I was intrigued. Plus, Rhode Skin founder Hailey Bieber herself uses them, so they must be doing something right. I went ahead and ordered them — here's my honest review.

Adding these eye masks to your morning routine won't be a big 'to-Dieux' — just leave 'em on while you brush your teeth and get dressed!

First impressions

According to the brand, the patches' job is to "hold gels, serums and creams close to the skin for maximum absorption. These masks encourage products to fully sink in, leaving skin prepped, hydrated and looking heavenly." Sounded good to me!

My Dieux Forever Eye Masks arrived in a cute little storage tin, a plus for someone like me who has a habit of misplacing small items. Aside from sporting the Dieux logo, they resembled other under-eye masks I'd seen online, with their thick Nike swoosh-like shape.

Putting them to the test

To use, the brand recommends applying a thin — thin! — layer of eye cream or serum, letting it sit for 10-20 seconds to get tacky, then placing the masks over. There are several placement options you can go with, depending on whether you want to de-puff, target your under-eyes or focus on crow's feet (they even have a handy guide on their Instagram). Want to achieve the perfect cat-eye eyeliner effect? These act like little stencils to help you get a straight line too!

As directed, I used just a bit of eye cream (I'm currently loving this Reflekt Eye & Lip Cream, which feels nice and hydrating, but lightweight). I let it sit for the recommended amount of time, then carefully placed the masks under my eyes. Since my primary concern is puffiness, I positioned them as recommended by Dieux (toward the inner corners of my eyes).

I'll admit, they felt a little strange at first — it became difficult to blink, due to their tautness. That said, I was pleased to find that they didn't slip one bit throughout the entire 20 minutes I had them on. They also fit right into my morning routine; I woke up, washed my face, applied my moisturizer and eye cream, placed the masks on, then went about getting dressed, making my bed and brushing my teeth. By the time I was done, it was time to remove them.

The verdict

I'll admit, I wasn't expecting these eye masks to perform any miracles — I'm always skeptical of skin-care products that claim they do. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that my under-eye area did, in fact, feel tighter and more refreshed. I definitely noticed a reduction in puffiness, and found that the bags stayed minimized for most of the day. Check out the before and after photos above to see the difference.

I also often wake up with dark circles under my eyes; those were still present, but I've yet to find a product that does anything to improve the look of them, aside from concealer. With that in mind, I found that my concealer didn't settle into my fine lines as much after removing the masks, thanks to the ample hydration they delivered to my under-eyes.

Dieux claims that the masks can be used for at least a year before the logo starts to fade — and even if they only worked for a year, I would still consider them a great buy. Someone could easily spend $25 on one week's worth of eye masks, so the fact that these are reusable makes them a steal. They hardly add any time to my skin-care regimen, plus I appreciate that there's less waste involved, and that I'm able to use them with a variety of products. On that note, you'll want to make sure you test your products on their own to ensure they don't irritate your skin, as using them with the masks can make their effects more potent.

Mass appeal

Ms. Bieber and I aren't the only ones going gaga over the Dieux Forever Eye Masks — here's what other reviewers had to say:

"I’ve never used any eye masks or sheet masks, being turned off by typical single-use options," wrote one satisfied shopper. "My under-eyes have been so dry since winter started, and I decided to give these a try. After just the first use for 10 minutes, I was amazed! I keep them in the fridge and use them every morning ... They make an apparent difference right after use that lasts most of the day. After about a week of using them daily, I noticed that my fine lines and minimal puffiness were looking smoothed around the clock. I never write reviews, but these are so awesome. Never going to be without them."

"I am 54 and have deep wrinkles under my eyes," shared another impressed reviewer. "After using these once, I noticed an immediate difference. I use them at night for 15 minutes and also in the morning for five minutes. My eyes are plumped up all day long and only a few fine lines are visible. The biggest difference is that my concealer does not crease because there are no wrinkles. ... I am going to be buying more for Christmas gifts for all my girlfriends."

"I wear these almost every day, and they have made a huge difference in my routine," wrote a final fan. "I love that I can test out a few different eye creams to really see what's working best with them. Tip: Definitely use less product than you think you need — I was noticing slipping the first few times I used the masks, but less product fixed the issue and didn't impact the hydration effects."

Bid those bags and puffiness a-Dieux! (OK, I'll stop with the puns now.)
