Illinois Animal Shelter Shows Off the Variety of Different Breeds They Have Up For Adoption
If you've ever taken the time to browse animal shelter websites, you'll know just how many Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas there are up for adoption. These seem to be the most commonly seen breeds in most places, but it would be wrong to assume that those are the only breeds who get surrendered or end up as strays. You could potentially find any dog breed at your local humane society, and one shelter is ready to prove it.
TAPS No-Kill Animal Shelter in Pekin, Illinois, showed off all of the dog breeds they have in their care in a fun November 17 TikTok video. There's even a gorgeous mystery mixed-breed boy at the end of the clip!
OMFG! Each and every one of these dogs is as stunning as the last. On the one hand, it's hard to believe that these beautiful, happy-looking dogs would ever end up in the shelter, but, on the other hand, I know just how big of a crisis many pet parents are going through. Caring for a dog is expensive AF, and not everyone is able to step up to the plate.

But for those who are looking to adopt--look no further! Fort Lauderdale's @humanebroward houses hundreds of adoptable pets, so you're bound to meet someone who matches your lifestyle. There are Labrador Retrievers and Australian Shepherds for more active individuals (or those who have lots of space for big dogs to run and play), and there are plenty of mixed-breed pups like Poker Face for those who are up for anything!
Whoever you adopt--and wherever you adopt from-- know that rescuing a dog saves multiple lives. Not only are you giving your fur baby a loving home, but you're helping create space in the shelter for other dogs, too. It's a win-win!
