Idaho Ski Areas Announce Winter 2024 Closing Dates

Ski Idaho released a list giving us an idea of when resorts across the state will stop spinning lifts this year, and it is all over the map.

Some resorts are already closed for the season, such as Bald Mountain in Pierce, ID, Cottonwood Butte in Cottonwood, ID, Little Ski Hill in McCall, ID, and Snowhaven in Grangeville, ID. For some ski areas, such as Cottonwood Butte, this decision was due to the snow conditions no longer being sufficient for skiing. See below.

Other resorts plan to stay open until late April, such as Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, WY, and Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, ID, who plan to remain open until April 21st.

Still others are closing in just a few days: Magic Mountain Resort in Kimberly, ID) and Soldier Mountain in Fairfield, ID are both shutting down on March 23rd.

Kelly Canyon Resort in Ririe, ID is giving it until the end of the month, on March 30, and Pebble Creek Ski Area in Inkom, ID and Rotarun in Hailey, ID follow just one day later.

In early April, Idaho skiers see the final days from Lost Trail Ski Area in Sula, MT (its last day being April 7th) and Pomerelle Mountain Resort in Albion, ID, with its last day on April 6th.

A number of resorts will be closing mid-April: Bogus Basin in Boise, ID, Brundage Mountain Resort in McCall, ID, Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area in Mullan, ID, and Schweitzer in Sandpoint, ID are all planning to remain open until April 14th.

On April 20th, Silver Mountain in Kellogg, ID will be closing.

For a cliffhanger, Tamarack Resort in Donnelly, ID is yet to announce their final day.

Tamarack has seen 229 inches of snow so far this season and has 77 inches at their mid-mountain. Yesterday the resort saw temps in the 40s and 50s.

Will you be betting on Tamarack or sticking it out at ol' reliable Grand Targhee? It often feels as if the Ghee gets the best snow, but there's certainly a thrill in skiing the final days at varying resorts until the bitter end.
