Weighing in at just seven pounds, the iRobot Roomba Combo j5 is small but mighty. With 75 minutes of battery life, it’s designed to clean both hard floors and carpets in orderly, overlapping lines and can be set to go over areas twice to ensure no dust, debris or pet hair gets missed. It even does edge and corner cleaning with its edge-sweeping brush.

To use extra features like scheduling and mapping no-mop zones, try the easy-to-use iRobot Home app. You can connect to the app with Alexa-, Siri- and Google Assistant–enabled devices to issue voice commands like “Tell Roomba Combo to clean the kitchen.”

The j5 also uses a camera to avoid obstacles like cords, backpacks, pet toys and clothes. And if your pet has an accident, it will steer clear. If it doesn’t, iRobot will replace the Roomba for free. (Terms and conditions apply.)

To use the mop, change out the Vacuum Bin to the Roomba Combo Bin and add water or a cleaning solution.

The vacuum is “easy to control with the app,” though it requires a strong Wi-Fi connection to use all the features like voice control and no-go zone mapping. Spotty internet access? You can simply set it down in a room and it will get to work.

It’s worth noting that the vacuum is “a bit noisy,” so you won’t want to run it while the kids are asleep. Since it uses a camera to properly avoid obstacles like cords and pets, it also needs enough light to “see.”

Some reviewers complain that the mop feature is “rudimentary” — just a “microfibre cloth and some liquid.” That’s fine if you’re looking to do regular maintenance to reduce dust but won’t work for cleaning huge messes.
