When we experience an eye twitch, it is usually a fleeting event. When your right eye is twitching, it could be due to stress, fatigue or even dry eyes. Unless there's an underlying medical condition, eye twitches tend to come and go like the wind. But even as fleeting as it may be, some folks believe there is a deeper, spiritual meaning attached to it.

The eyes have been said to be the windows to the soul, so there are bound to be profound messages behind physical occurrences. To further understand the spiritual meaning of your right eye twitching, we spoke with Heather Amunet Archer, author of The Grind Culture Detox, spiritual leader and sound healer who's on a mission to promote a culture of wellness.

The right eye twitching is often seen as a superstition or sign of energy shifts or disturbances in the spiritual and physiological realms. These shifts may be seen as positive signs of transformation, or deeper traumas hiding beneath the surface.

What Does It Mean When Your Right Eye Twitches?

Our right eye symbolizes the creative and emotional side of life. If a physical manifestation occurs on the right side of our body, there is likely an underlying theme attached to our intuition and spirituality. So, what does it mean when your right eye twitches? There are multiple, potential meanings.

First, you may be undergoing a period of transformation and perhaps, having a spiritual awakening. The twitching of the right eye could be seen as a heightened sensitivity to energies and a potential awakening of one's intuition. Some believe that it signifies an opening of the third eye.

Conversely, the right eye twitching may be interpreted as a sign of energy shifts,  disruptions or unresolved traumas coming to the surface. Change can be a good or bad thing in the eyes of the beholder. The right eye twitching may suggest that the individual is undergoing uncomfortable changes.

Spiritual Interpretations

While there are several spiritual interpretations around the right eye twitching, it has long reigned as a symbol of change and transformation. Something significant could be around the corner for an individual—whether it be positive or negative.

"The right eye twitching may have to do with unresolved fears and trauma. There could be suppressed anxiety coming to the surface," Archer says.

While we may connotate unresolved fears, traumas and anxieties rising to the surface as a negative disruption, moving through these feelings will result in positive change. Archer encourages keeping an open mind and moving through the uncomfortable feelings as they rise, adding: "The right eye twitching can also indicate that you are having a phoenix cycle and experiencing a time of deep transformation."

The phoenix is a symbol of perpetual creation, destruction and renewal. It also has to do with the birth, death, rebirth and resurrection of the cosmos.

Spiritual Significance

With the right side of the body being deeply connected to intuition, creativity and spirituality, there is great spiritual significance in the right eye twitching. If you are experiencing a spiritual awakening, you may be moving away from materialistic items and worldly desires. You may feel more in tune with yourself and deeper desires.

You may also be getting in touch with your creative side. As we age, many of us lose our sense of imagination. We no longer create things for the sake of creating. But your right eye twitching may signal that desire to connect with your inner artist. Whether it's creating music, painting or snapping photographs, it's time to let your creative energy shine.

Additionally, you may be feeling more sensitive than you normally do. As Archer mentions, the right eye twitching may indicate a period of deep transformation – which can naturally bring up uncomfortable feelings.

Spiritual Significance of the Time of Day Your Right Eye Twitches

"The time of day this phenomenon is experienced can vary, but for many, [it] usually occurs during waking hours during the day time," Archer says. "This is because you are more prone to busyness and multitasking—it’s your body and nervous system’s way of processing a multitude of emotions and spiritual transfiguration."

In holistic spiritual practices, consideration is often given to the body's circadian rhythms and energy flow throughout the day, as Archer mentioned. Some experts believe that the time of day when the right eye twitches aligns with the body's natural cycles, with morning twitching associated with fresh energy and newfound clarity.

Chinese traditions associate the right eye twitching and its spiritual significance depending on the time of day. For example, if it occurs during the morning hours, there is believed to be an increased chance of suffering or an accident ahead. Experiencing the right eye twitching during the evening hours may indicate a sign of good luck or fortune.

Daytime often represents action while nighttime symbolizes introspection. Experiencing the right eye twitching during these periods might be interpreted as a reflection of the spiritual energies associated with each phase. However, it's important to acknowledge these interpretations are subjective and can vary based on individual experiences.
