Houston TX Hot Chicken set to open first Michigan location in Sterling Heights

A new fast-casual chicken chain specializing in Nashville-style hot chicken has entered the Michigan market.

Houston TX Hot Chicken, also known as HHC, picked bustling Hall Road in Sterling Heights for its first location.

The restaurant's grand opening is set for April 20.

Houston TX Hot Chicken serves halal, organic, never frozen, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free chicken, according to a news release announcing the Sterling Heights location.

Its menu includes hot chicken tenders served on brioche buns with pickles, slaw, house sauce and fries. The tenders are also served separately with a choice of sauces, including its house-made Caesar, cheese, cilantro, and house sauce. Its house specialty is its Cheesy Hot Chicken sandwich, the company says.

The original hot chicken sandwich is $13.99 and served on a brioche bun with pickles, slaw, house sauce and concertina-style crinkle-cut fries, according to its online menu.

You can order Houston TX Hot Chicken with a variety of spice levels. Spice level choices include no spice to mild and medium to spicy "liftoff" hot and waiver required “Houston We Have a Problem.”

The full menu includes hot chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, chicken tenders with slaw or waffles, Texas Caesar salad, Fusion fries and milkshakes. Its side menu includes chicken tortilla soup, waffles and slaw.

A grand opening event is noon-3 p.m. April 20 at 14796 Hall Road in Sterling Heights with complimentary sandwiches, food challenge contests with cash prizes, and an exotic car meet. The HWHAP (Houston We Have a Problem) Spice Challenge contest offers a $1,000 prize and a separate food challenge has a $500 prize.

On that busy stretch of Hall Road, between Schoenherr and Hayes roads, HHC joins several other fast-casual chicken places, including a Chick-fil-A and Jollibee. A Shack Shake is also nearby.

Hours are 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-midnight Friday-Saturday and 10:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday.

In Michigan, the chain is planning locations in Novi and Troy to open by year-end. Houston Crosta and Edmond Barseghian in 2020 founded Houston TX Hot Chicken. The growing chain has locations in Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Texas, Utah and Idaho.
