I’m not afraid to admit it: I’m a hot sleeper. I’m in good (albeit sweaty) company — nearly 20 percent of all women in the U.S. report feeling too hot when sleeping. Forgive me if this is TMI, but I’ll try just about anything to stop waking up in a pool of sweat.

As a health-obsessed shopping writer who tests the best products for a living, I naturally sent myself down the rabbit hole of cooling sleep solutions — I’ve tried personal fans, cooling gel mattress toppers, and herbal supplements, just to name a few. And, of all the products and potions I’ve tried, one thing has made the biggest difference in my nighttime body temperature: cooling sheets.

Specifically, I’m talking about the bamboo sheet set from Cozy Earth. The bedding and loungewear brand constantly earns a spot on Oprah’s coveted Favorite Things list, and I can see why. The bamboo fabric feels so soft and cool that I don’t even kick them off in the middle of the night (a sign that I’m sleeping more soundly than before). I love that the set comes with a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. They are, in no uncertain terms, my desert-island-must-have sheets.

Right now, Cozy Earth is offering a special treat for our readers: You can use the code PEOPLE at checkout for 35 percent off. But hurry — the discounts only last until 5/12.

I’m not the only one who obsesses over this silky-soft sheet set — we tried out the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets in our PEOPLE Tested lab and sent them home with testers. We all agreed that the bamboo material felt silky (without sliding around on the bed) and didn’t have any loose threads or flaws upon inspection.

We found that the Cozy Earth sheets were so thin and breathable that they felt cool to the touch and stayed cool after lying on them. We also washed the sheets to test their durability and were happy to find that they remained very soft and held up well. We did notice that the sheets shrunk slightly after washing and fit more snugly on the bed, but we loved how wrinkle-free they were right out of the dryer.

Whether you prefer to bundle under your sheets or sleep on top of your comforter, some of us just run hot while we sleep — and that’s when cooling sheets can save the night. Cooling sheets offer breathability and comfort, making your good night’s sleep last a little longer.

While I’m a huge fan of the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets, there are plenty of other cooling sheet options on the market, and we’ve tested 114 different sheets in our PEOPLE Tested labs and at home to find the best of the best.

Bedsure Cooling Sheets Set

We loved this budget-friendly sheet set from Amazon because of its high-quality silky texture and durability. We found the fitted sheet was snug around the mattress, and the top sheet is sizable, providing plenty of coverage for those who share a bed with sheet thieves. Plus, bamboo sheets are generally known for their lightweight, soft feel at an affordable price. The texture of these sheets proved a little wrinkly, but the bamboo material was soft and cool to the touch.

Olive + Crate Eucalyptus Sheet Set

The Olive + Crate Cooling Eucalyptus Sheets were some of the softest, smoothest, coolest sheets we tested, and we feel confident any hot sleeper would breathe a sigh of relief once snuggled up in these. Our team has several hot sleepers, and these sheets keep them cool and comfortable all night long. We love that they’re moderately priced compared to other sheet sets we’ve tried, but did notice a few loose threads on the pillowcases after a few months.

Bampure Organic Bamboo Sheets

These bamboo sheets left our team quite impressed with their quality design, soft texture, and durability. We appreciated the cool bamboo material and the nice stitching with an extra flap on the pillowcases to cover the opening. This set hardly wrinkled compared to others in our test, and they also had a nice sheen. We also loved that the sheets retained their soft feel even after washing them. Plus, they’re competitively priced!

How We Tested Percale, Bamboo, and Eucalyptus Sheets

To find the softest, coolest sheets, we tested 114 percale, bamboo, eucalyptus, cotton, satin, and sateen sheet sets in our lab and for up to six months in our homes. Looking at factors like texture, value, and feel, our team rated each sheet on the following qualities:

  • Quality: We unpacked each set and looked for signs of wear and any imperfections. In our lab, we made up a demo bed to see how well the sheets fit the mattress and then repeated this step after washing the sheets in case there was any shrinkage.

  • Breathability: We considered the feel of the sheets and took note of how comfortable the texture was against bare skin. We also checked the breathability by examining the thickness of the sheets (if light passed through) and whether the sheets stayed cool after lying on them for five minutes. Our team also determined how well the cooling sheets wicked away moisture by pouring a few drops of water on them and seeing how well the droplets dispersed throughout the sheet.

  • Durability: We also determined the durability — with our team looking for loose threads, fading, or other damage after washing the sheets — by comparing the material of unwashed pillowcases to the washed sheets. In addition to a wash, we used sandpaper on some sheets to see if we could damage the material and reduce any smoothness. We also conducted a stain test with coffee, oil, and liquid foundation makeup and let each agent dry on the flat sheets and pillowcases for one hour. We then pre-treated the sheet stains and washed the flat sheet on a normal cycle to see how much of the stain lifted.

  • Long-Term Testing: Over the next six months, we tested many of these sheets in our homes to see how they held up over time. We continued testing the durability (with the help of some pets who like to dig in the sheets), breathability (over many warm nights), and quality (looking at the design and how well they actually cooled us down).

Based on all of these qualities and considering the price (once it was revealed after testing), our team determined the overall value of each sheet set.

What Is PEOPLE Tested?

We created the PEOPLE Tested seal of approval to help you find the very best products for your life. We use our unique methodology to test products in three labs across the country and with our network of home testers to determine their effectiveness, durability, ease of use, and so much more. Based on the results, we rate and recommend products so you can find the right one for your needs.

But we don’t stop there: We also regularly re-review the categories in which we’ve awarded the PEOPLE Tested seal of approval — because the best product of today might not be the best of tomorrow. And by the way, companies can never buy our recommendation: Their products must earn it, fair and square.

In short, PEOPLE Tested provides recommendations you can trust — every day, every purchase.
