Lars: We seem determined to cast Shia Iran as our arch-enemy, when all of the Islamic terrorist attacks outside of the Middle East, including 9/11/2001, have been done by Sunni Muslims (many of whom were from our "ally" Saudi Arabia). In light of this, I've wondered why we've hitched our wagon to Sunni countries like Saudi Arabia. And yes, I'm familiar with U.S.-Iran history, including the U.S.-British orchestrated overthrow of the democratically-elected Iranian government and the installation of the Shah in 1953, the Iranian Revolution in 1979 which deposed the Shah and captured the U.S. embassy personnel, the U.S. support for Saddam Hussein during the 1980-89 Iraq-Iran war (which Iraq started), and the U.S. shooting down of an Iranian airliner in 1988. In light of these, it's no surprise that Iran views the U.S. with suspicion, but why must the United States seize every opportunity to vilify Iran and excuse Saudi Arabia? And no, I'm not an Iranian troll; I'm of Scandinavian descent from the American Midwest.
