The 2023 New York City Marathon kicked off the morning of Sunday, Nov. 5—and among the celebrities tackling the 26.2-mile course through the five boroughs was Today co-host Sheinelle Jones.

Jones' Today family was there to support her, including Hoda Kotb and her two daughters, Haley and Hope.

The night before the big race, Kotb shared a video on Instagram showing off the signs she and her daughters made. "Getting ready for the marathon!" she captioned the post.

As Kotb panned over the signs, one read, "You got this Sheinelle Jones," while another said, "Goooo! Sheinelle Goooo!"

Jones popped into the comments, writing, "Ok I’m crying. Love you @hodakotb ❤️."

Jenna Bush Hager, who was out of state, posted on her grid, "I can’t cheer for my girls @sheinelle_o and @rainyfarrell in person but do you think they can hear me from Texas?? You got it girls! So proud of you sheinelle and your commitment. You inspire!"

Jones took to Instagram ahead of the race to reflect on her marathon training journey—something she has publicly documented on social media and Today.

"Not that it wasn’t real … but … it’s hitting a little different this morning," she wrote alongside a carousel of photos. "Goodness knows this has been a journey -physically and mentally. (People who have passed me on running trails have probably witnessed me smiling to myself and even crying.) I’m proud of myself for getting this far!"

Jones previously announced on Today her decision to sign up for the New York City marathon. But she soon discovered the intense amount of work that goes into training.

"When I first started doing this, I just thought I would go outside and practice sometimes. I never really thought about, really, what it takes to prepare for a marathon."

With the help of Nike running coach Jes Woods, Jones built up her mileage in preparation for running 26.2 miles. She explained she hopes to inspire others to challenge themselves.

"A lot of us have things that we've always wanted to do, and life gets in the way. So, I am hoping that if I do this, that it will maybe trigger something in you to do something as well. Because I think together, we can do hard things."
