This high school prom was like the Met Gala for teens: ‘Can’t compete with these kids’
It’s not punch bowls and cheap corsages anymore.
Booker T. Washington High School students transformed their Miami, Florida prom into a real-life Cinderella moment and their soiree is being compared to the Met Gala thanks to their incredibly elaborate fashions.
Not unlike the annual celebrity soiree, students dressed to the nines for their fairytale-themed bash last Friday and arrived in style in flashy vehicles like Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, BMW and even a horse-drawn carriage.
As seen in a one-minute TikTok clip posted by Booker T. Washington student Camilo Castro, these dapper teens’ showy arrival even included a motorcade with police escorts as family and friends watched in awe.
“My friends crushed prom,” Castro captioned the viral clip with over 3.9 million views.
It’s not uncommon for teens to go all out for their annual big night out, but Miami youths take it to the next level. In 2018, one local school brought a live tiger to the festivities. More recently, Miami Northwestern High School, which had its prom on May 11, celebrated a night of “Majestic Beauty,” arriving in Porsches, Lamborghinis and Cybertrucks.
“This is the norm,” one teacher told the Miami Herald. “But this class set the bar a little higher because everyone understood the assignment.”
At the Booker T. Washington event, entitled “Once Upon a Time: Does the Shoe Fit?,” the well-dressed youngins embodied folktale characters from Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Aladdin, Princess and The Frog and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Even by the hair of their chinny chin chin, students were determined to make their prom look a fashion statement that even the fairy tale characters wished they served.
Some students added small details of the theme into their dresses or tuxes, while others went over the top giving Met Gala fairytale couture — like one young woman who wore a horn hat with a strapless black gown accessorized with a crow.
A young woman encapsulated the real-life princess moment by arriving at the ball in an all-white pumpkin-shaped carriage with her prince charming.
Her ice-blue ballroom dress dazzled as she exited the coach and gracefully made her way to the venue before the clock struck midnight.
Another duo, who cosplayed Beauty and the Beast, strutted the prom walkway, the young woman in a gold feathered and beaded dress holding an enchanted red rose. Her date stood by her side, appearing ferocious in a beast mask while wearing a navy blue suit.
They weren’t the only couple who took the fairy tale look seriously.
Little Red Riding Hood found her way out of the woods to prom with the Big Bad Wolf as her plus one, who wore a wolf mask with his stunner shades on.
The student looked ravishing in a red corset dress featuring a sequin hoodie, like Little Red Riding Hood and toted a basket of goodies to tame the wolf.
Other high schoolers wore prom-inspired outfits resembling Tinker Bell, Princess and The Frog, Jafar, Princess Jasmine and Aladdin, wowing the internet with their creativity and dedication.
“These kids KILLLLLLED this theme!!!! MET Gala who?? Anna Wintour needs to call them,” one viewer commented.
“MET GALA!!! Can’t compete with these kids,” added another. “Maleficent [is the] winner.”
Although a prom king and queen were not revealed online, everyone went home a winner, living happily ever after.
