This Hidden IKEA Hack Can Create a Statement Oversized Mirror
Decorating with mirrors can make any room look bigger and brighter. But finding a giant mirror on a budget that doesn’t look like a budget buy can be a challenge. Thankfully artist Marlene (@marlene.dietrich.art) came up with a clever IKEA hack to create a 7-foot-tall mirror for around $120, plus the cost of a few materials.
IKEA’s peel and stick BLODLÖNN mirrors are one of their most basic mirror offerings, costing just $12.99 for a pack of four. They might not be on your radar, even if you’re a regular IKEA shopper — but they’ve got plenty of hidden potential, as seen in this hack.

To make her mirror, Marlene took a bunch of wooden strips and cut them to size — longer ones for the vertical framing and shorter ones for the horizontal. After spraying them gold, she built her mirror from the bottom, working upwards.
She stuck the first horizontal wooden strip to the wall, then added five mirrors above it, leaving gaps in between for framing. Next, she stuck on the long vertical strips in between the mirrors, which spanned the full height of the finished mirror.
She continued to stick on row after row of the square mirrors, adding the shorter horizontal strips above each individual mirror. Finally, she added the strips to the remaining three outer edges to frame the entire mirror.
Marlene made this mirror for her art studio, but this mirror hack would make a statement in any room, especially a bedroom or an entryway. Best of all, you can take this idea and go even larger (or smaller) depending on your space. And if gold doesn’t fit with your decor style, spray the frame in black, white, or any other color under the sun.
