'He's raped many people that I love': Mira Sorvino reacts to Harvey Weinstein arrest

Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino reacted to Harvey Weinstein’s arrest in an interview on Today. She is one of nearly a hundred women who’ve accused the movie producer of sexual assault or sexual harassment.

“He’s raped many people that I love. So it’s not really a happy occasion. I think maybe there will be some celebration when he gets convicted and goes to jail. That’s when the process will be complete and when we’ll see justice really being served,” she said.

Sorvino came forward about her sexual harassment claim in a New Yorker article along with many other women. When Today displayed an image showing all of Weinstein’s accusers, Sorvino began to cry.

The actress also spoke about Weinstein’s attempt to blacklist her. Director Peter Jackson revealed that he was pushed to not hire Sorvino for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. She shared her reaction to Jackson’s revelation, saying: “It was like a thunderbolt. It was kind of crazy. I was like, so it was really this malevolent hand that changed the course of my life and my professional horizons?”

Sorvino said she’s working on promoting legislation in California to stop sexual harassment. She said, “If culture is going to change and less people will be sexually assaulted because of this movement and this outcry among millions across the world, then it was all worth it.”
