Perinatal loss memorial service to be held

MICHIGAN CITY — Franciscan Health Michigan City will hold a memorial service for all families who have suffered the loss of a pregnancy or newborn. Remembering Our Babies will be held at 1 p.m. CDT April 27 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, 1015 Greenwood Ave. For more information about memorial and pregnancy loss support services, contact Franciscan Health Michigan City’s Family Birth Center at 219-877-1610.

Classes

BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St. will offer the eight-week class called Matter of Balance. MOB is designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity levels among older adults. The program includes eight two-hour classes presented to a small group led by trained coaches. The classes will meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, May 15 to July 10. There is a book fee of $20. Registration is required because space is limited. SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “What to look for in advanced care” from 10 to 11 a.m. April 22 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live/interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer. SOUTH BEND — RiverBend Cancer Services Wellness House, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., will offer the following “Living Well with Cancer” classes. GOSHEN — Chair Yoga will be offered by the Elkhart County Parks at 9:30 a.m. April 25 in the Ox Bow Haus Shelter in Ox Bow Park, 23033 County Road 45. Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is done while seated or using a chair for balance. Wear comfortable clothing. Some mats are available; bring your own if you have one. This is a free class for those 12 years and older. No registration is required.

SOUTH BEND — Self-Healing Communities of Greater Michiana will present: “Brain Care is Self-Care and Our Mortality” from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 24 at St. Joseph County Public Library, German Township Branch, 52807 Lynnewood Ave. Explore the connection between caring for our brains and embracing our mortality. The aim is to foster greater self-compassion and offer caregiver tricks for caring for themselves as they care for a loved one.

BUCHANAN — “Navigating Nutrition with (Pre)Diabetes” will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 25 at Buchanan Area Senior Center, 810 Rynearson St. Melissa Powell with Area Agency on Aging will discuss managing blood sugars and review tips for meal planning, healthy snacks, carbohydrate foods and more. ST. JOSEPH — Gather with family and friends to honor, remember and celebrate those we love for a non-denominational service of remembrance at 5:30 p.m. April 25. Open to all. There will be a reception following the service with a time of fellowship. The service will be held at Lory’s Place, 445 Upton Drive; RSVP at 269-983-2707.
