It's Happening!- Vermont's Largest Ski Resort Begins Snowmaking

All right, West Coast skiers, you've had your moment -- Arapahoe Basin's open, Keystone's quickly following suit, and several resorts have had their first multi-foot snow storms of the season -- it's time for the East to shine.

Earlier today, Killington, Vermont -- the state's largest ski resort -- announced that they had begun snowmaking efforts.

The snow guns are focused on Superstar, which is usually Killington's first and last run to open during the ski season.

Here's another look via Killington's webcams.

On Instagram, where Killington also shared the snowmaking announcement, skiers expressed excitement and speculated about potential opening dates for the resort. Some suggested Killington might fire up the chairlifts on Friday or this weekend.

Despite the rumor mill's churn, though, Killington hasn't confirmed (or denied) the hopes of skiers clamoring for first turns, meaning all we can really do at this point is wait and see.

Killington, to their credit, states that they typically open in "mid-November." Last season, they opened on November 17th. If I were a betting man (I'm not), I'd put my money on Killington getting started on a similar date this year -- the snow still looks pretty thin on the resort's webcams.

Regardless, the start of snowmaking is a step in the right direction, a reminder that the ski season is inching ever closer.
