Handsome Shelter Cat Named Midas Is Looking for a Pennsylvania Family with the Golden Touch

It may sound cliché, but there really is a shelter cat out there for everyone. Whether you'd like a cuddle buddy who follows you everywhere you go or an independent garden cat to help take care of a rodent problem--there's a cat for that! Sometimes, the universal cat distribution system decides when a cat randomly falls into someone's life, but those who visit shelters to look for their BFF will have a difficult but wonderful choice to make.

Potential adopters in Pennsylvania have been passing by a diamond in the rough--though I suppose gold-related puns are better suited for him. That's because this sweet kitty's name is Midas! His sparkling eyes are just as golden as his name implies, and his jet-black fur is as sleek as can be. His friends at the Beaver County Humane Society posted the most precious video of the adoptable cat on January 26, and everyone's fingers are crossed it helps him find his forever home.

What a beautiful cat! Between his friendly nature and gorgeous appearance, it's a mystery why he hasn't been adopted yet. As his friends at the @beaver_co_humane_society explained, this 3-year-old Domestic shorthair has been in the shelter since the end of November, and all he wants is to be loved.

In fact, he wants to be loved so much that he'd prefer to be the only pet in the home. Sharing can be difficult for some animals, but when it comes to hanging with people, Midas couldn't be friendlier. So why in the world hasn't this shelter cat been adopted?

Black-Colored Pets Spend Longer in Shelters

Unfortunately, it's likely that Midas's jet-black fur has played a role in his long wait at the shelter. Black-colored cats and dogs have a much harder time finding homes compared to animals of other colors.

This is likely to do with the centuries of superstition regarding black animals. Think about it! It's common superstition to believe that it's bad luck if a cat crosses your path, but I assure you--nothing but good will come from crossing paths with Midas!

More recently, people have dismissed dark-colored pets because they are difficult to photograph and are less aesthetically pleasing. Yes--seriously! In reality, a pet of any color will photograph well in the right lighting, so potential adopters are encouraged to think beyond physical appearance. Would you like your cat to be more playful or lazy? Do you need a kitty who's independent or one who's affectionate like Midas?

With a little bit of thought and research, you can find the perfect adoptable cat for you. If you're in the Pennsylvania area, it just might be Midas!
