We Had a Cameraman In the Water For the First South Swell of the Season and It Was Magic

For those that surf the Golden State, or at least the bottom half, they know that a good southern hemisphere swell can be pure magic if the conditions come together. Well, last week, all the things fell into place and the first significant south swell of the season lit up Southern California mainstays. To put it simply: there were moments of epic-ness throughout.

We love to get our people in the trenches during these events (it sounds as if there’s more south on the way so stay tuned), and when we do, they usually come back with the goods. This round, we had talented shooter Greg Viviani in the water and on the drone and he captured everything we could have hoped for at two Orange County gems (one you’ve definitely heard of, the other, maybe not). Well, Mr. Viviani totally delivered after some long days in the water, and in the editing bay.

“Pretty amazing run of swell,” he said. “Literally had no voice to scream “YEEEEEWWWW!!!!” From yeewwwing so much this day!”

Yeah, it’s been a good run. And it ain’t over. The southern hemi faucet is fully open. For the next five days, you can expect surf in the three-to-five foot range with obviously some bigger wave faces at standout south-facing spots. Hope you have your quiver in order because it’s gonna be fun.

In the meantime, enjoy the clips!
