Grace Fellowship hosts 10th annual Joy Prom where ‘everybody has value’

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Grace Fellowship Church hosted the 10th annual Joy Prom on Friday, a night many church volunteers say is their favorite of the year.

The Joy Prom is a free event for over 800 special needs guests and their families.

Prom attendees walked a “red carpet” entrance, ate dinner and participated in the following activities throughout the night:

  • Pamper stations

  • Horse-and-carriage rides

  • Photo booths

  • Carnival games

  • Dancing and more

Amanda Brown, Grace Fellowship’s local outreach coordinator, told News Channel 11 that Joy Prom is a memorable night for guests.

Friends, employees remember former JC Press co-owner, editor “Johnny” Jones

“We have guests that come every year and they always come up to me and say, ‘This is such a special night, we look forward to it,'” Brown said. “They talk to me about memories from the year before and it just brings me such joy to know that it is something that they are anticipating every single year.”

Nearly 300 volunteers and sponsors make the Joy Prom possible by donating money to the event, providing dinner or assisting in various ways with formalwear.

Grace Fellowship Church believes every individual has significant value and calls Joy Prom an “opportunity for the community to celebrate friends with special needs and their families.”
