This $85 HexClad skillet is down to the lowest price we've seen — Gordon Ramsay calls it 'the Rolls-Royce of pans'

The HexClad Hybrid Nonstick Fry Pan is like if a stainless steel skillet and nonstick cookware had a baby — and it's on rare sale at Amazon.

It's not every day a frying pan grabs our attention — but when it's one that Gordon Ramsay dubs "the Rolls-Royce of pans," our ears perk up. Such is the case with HexClads, which the celebrity chef claims to use at work and for home cooking. They've acquired a devoted fanbase, thanks to their unique hybrid design, which marries the sturdy properties of stainless steel with the easy cleanup of nonstick cookware. All of that sounds pretty elite, and these pans typically have price tags to match. That's why we did a double take when we saw that the HexClad Hybrid Nonstick 7-Inch Fry Pan had been slashed to $85 (from $114) at Amazon. Yes, Chef!

A nonstick pan that can actually achieve a good sear? We're listening!

Why is it a good deal?

While HexClad often has sales on larger cookware sets, their single pans are rarely marked down. If you could use just one skillet rather than a whole caboodle, this one is currently down to the lowest price we've seen. Our advice? Add it to your cart before it sells like hotcakes!

Why do I need this?

"HexClad stands up to the demands at home and in the studio," says Ramsay, who has partnered with the brand. "Not only are they beautiful pans, but their hybrid technology cooks to absolute, utter perfection."

What sets this HexClad Hybrid pan apart from the rest is its patented hybrid tech, which features tri-ply construction: a layer of heat-conducting aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel, topped with a hexagonal nonstick surface. Why not just a regular nonstick coating? The laser-etched, stainless steel hexagonal design is meant to provide better browning and searing between the nonstick areas, giving you the best of both worlds. (It also looks cool!)

The 7-inch pan is small, yet versatile, and ideal for cooking up individual meals, frying eggs, toasting nuts and much more. You can use it on any cooktop, and it's also oven-safe up to 500°F. Plus, it's scratch-resistant (you can use metal utensils!) and, conveniently, dishwasher-safe — though the interior is so slick, it would probably be just as easy to clean by hand.

What reviewers say

Gordon Ramsay isn't the only one who loves HexClad – Amazon customers are smitten, too.

"As a career chef, I know pans and am particular about the ones I have at home," shared a culinary pro. "I started with a fry pan ... Nothing I’ve used, including the best cast iron, combines all the qualities you need in cookware. ... These pans brown faster, more evenly and with a lower heat setting than all others. I quickly bought the whole set. They even simmer water at a lower temp than fancy brands. Very little sticks, they clean quickly and easily and seem to dry themselves if rinsed with hot water."

"Best pans I've owned," raved another happy home cook. "The pans are excellent for all cooking, especially fried foods. They are not as heavy to handle as I thought they would be. ... Would suggest any new buyers pay attention to the 'seasoning' instructions. Very important to do."

"I wish I had purchased the 8-inch pan instead," groused this Goldilocks. "Just a little more room." (FYI, the 7-inch pan is the least expensive, but it comes in four larger sizes if those would suit you better.)

Psst: If you could use a new stockpot, this one's on sale!

This roomy cooking vessel uses the same hybrid tech as HexClad's pans and will become your new favorite for making soups, stews and meals for a crowd. It comes with a glass tempered lid, which allows you to keep an eye on your food while it cooks.

"Best pot I've ever owned," gushed a fan. "First time I used it was to make chili. [The] pot heats up fast, cooks at a lower temperature and, best of all, the chili didn't stick to the pot as it does sometimes. Cleanup is a breeze with this pot. I'm now in the process of replacing my most-used cooking pots and pans with HexClad."
