Gold Rush-themed event featuring local authors

May 2—Marysville's monthly First Saturdays event will feature a number of Gold Rush-inspired activities, including works from local published authors and artists.

This Saturday's event will be hosted by Skip's Marysville Music Cafe at 319 D St. in Marysville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to Judy Mann, a Marysville resident and historian, Saturday's event is a "sneak preview" of what's to come as organizers plan a 175th anniversary event for Marysville's founding.

Among the authors featured is Andre LaBouyer, also known by his pen name The Usual Bohemian. LaBouyer is introducing his fifth book published on March 1, "The Shadows at Cortez Square," a murder-mystery novel based on Marysville's history as a Gold Rush settlement.

Bridge Coffee Co. will provide a Gold Rush-themed coffee blend and Edible Memories Bakery will provide "gold nugget" lemon bars. The Brick Coffeehouse will also be providing wine tasting as well as crafts and activities for children, including gold panning.

Musical acts will include Sourdough Slim and Skip Bertsch & Company. Mann will lead a walking tour of the "Hidden Treasures of Marysville" at 1 p.m. Those interested must sign up in advance by visiting Mann at Skip's Marysville Music Cafe prior to the tour. A $10 fee will include a scavenger hunt for kids.

Saturday's event will occur rain or shine, organizers said.
