Going to Crawfish King Cook-Off? When, where, what tickets cost for family fun, great food

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) —The Crawfish King Cook-Off will return to Baton Rouge on Friday, May 10.

“It’s festival season here in Louisiana, and Crawfish King Cook-Off has this same festival-styled, family-friendly vibe,” said Michele Carbo, VP of Development, Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge. “Our event is next door to Live After 5, behind City Hall in Rhorer Plaza.”

The Crawfish King Cook-Off first started in 2014 in the capital city and will celebrate its 10th anniversary during this year’s event. According to Carbo, the event was cancelled in 2020.

“Since 2014, thousands of young people have participated in mentoring programs thanks to event partners and the community’s amazing support for Crawfish King Cook-Off,” said Carbo.

The Crawfish King Cook-Off competition will be open to amateur, corporate boiling five-person teams. According to the event’s website, teams are offered a 10-foot by 10-foot cooking space and crawfish to boil.

“This year 25+ corporate teams will compete for the title of Crawfish King, and we’re planning to boil 10,000 lbs. of crawfish,” said Carbo.

The team registration fee for the competition is $1,500 and entry fees are due by Wednesday, April 24. Fill out a registration form in advance if you want to participate.

Tickets for this year’s event are $35 in advance and $40 at the gate. Tickets for kids 10 years and younger are $10, according to the event’s website. Tickets can be bought online.

“This event is so much more because it is a fundraiser for two education nonprofit organizations, Junior Achievement and Big Buddy Program,” said Carbo. “Proceeds from Crawfish King Cook-Off help our organizations mentor youth in a variety of enrichment programs, both inside and outside of the classroom.”
