German's Shepherd's Terrified Face Over the Family Cat Is Priceless

When you have more than one pet you always want them to get along, or at least tolerate each other. Well, the gorgeous German Shepherd in the following video seems to be tolerating his cat sibling, he's just not too happy about it.

Just check out his suspicious side eye!

The hilarious video was shared by the TikTok account for @coultergsd and one person commented, "Poor baby! He's living in fear!" Another added, "Yep. we have a Great Dane that is scared of our cats." Another said, "German shepherds are big but quite timid to people and animals they love." That's very true. A lot of Shepherds are just gentle giants that are afraid of hurting creatures smaller than they are.

Dogs being afraid of cats or even other animals is not that uncommon, even amongst the biggest dog breeds. Here are just a few reason why your own dog may not be the biggest fan of cats.

We are all familiar with cats being afraid of dogs, and I think most of us have seen plenty of dogs chasing cats! We aren't positive about why the dog in the above video is afraid of the family cat but it could be due to a number of things.

Some of the reasons a dog may be afraid of cats is:

Lack of socialization. If a dog hasn't been met cats or kitten during critical socialization periods as a puppy, they may develop fear or anxiety around them later in life.

The dog may have had a negative experience with a cat, like being scratched or chased by one which could make them fearful.

Prey drive. Dogs with strong prey drive may be afraid of cats because they want to chase them, but have been told no by their owner.

Which brings us to owner influence.  If an owner reacts fearfully or negatively towards cats, the dog may mimic this behavior. Or if the owner yelled at the dog for going after the cat as a kitten, which is totally understandable, especially with a big breed like a German Shepherd who doesn't always realize their own strength, the dog may grow up to fear cats.
