GardenFest 2024 is Saturday

May 13—RUSHVILLE — Anyone looking for plants or information and demonstrations about growing flowers or gardening will want to attend Saturday's GardenFest at the Rush County Fairgrounds.

This is the 19th year for the popular event, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 in the Livestock Pavilion at the Rush County Fairgrounds.

There will be numerous vendors selling a variety of plants, garden decor and a wide range of of hand-crafted goods — and there will be free shopping bags for the first 250 shoppers at the Rush County Gardeners' booth.

SCHEDULE

9 a.m.: Christie Singleton with the Rush County Extension Homemakers organization will give a talk about "De-Stressing in the Garden."

10 a.m.: Karen Schneider, a nature enthusiast and bird lover, will give a program titled "Birds & Humans — Helping Them & How They Help Us."

11 a.m.: Terri Nigh from Windy Acres Ceramics will show how to make "A Little Fishy Flower Pot — Ceramic Style."

NOON: Tammy McKee, a local artist, will explain "Secrets of Success: Growing Stunning Bearded Irises."

There will also be a Kids Korner, where kids can do garden crafts free of charge, and the 4-H Dog Club will be manning the concession stand so you can grab a bit to eat while you're shopping.

Don't forget to stop by the Rush County Gardeners' booth. There you can pick up free gardening information and free seeds. You can also buy some plants donated by our members and sign up to win an awesome garden cart filled with garden goodies! Each $1 donation gives you a chance to win.

Rush County Soil & Water is sponsoring a tree seedling give-away. They have over 1,000 tree seedlings to give away to local residents (limit six per household). There will be 12 varieties of trees: four different oaks, maple, pecan, persimmon, pine, spruce, walnut and others.

Soil & Water will also have a Native Plant sale featuring more than 25 varieties of plants that are all native to this area.

"GardenFest is a fun event and it's free of charge," organizer Joyce Miller said. "There is plenty of parking available and it's a delightful way to spend your Saturday!"
