Gabrielle Union shed new light on her decision to hold off on having children until she was in her 40s.

In a video posted to her Instagram page over the weekend, Union publicly addressed the question she said she is often asked, which is whether or not she believes it's "worth it" to wait to have kids later in life.

Her response was a gleeful yes, but as the Truth Be Told actress explained in the clip captioned, "Choosing to heal past traumas was the best preparation for motherhood," it's not a simple answer.

"There’s a lot that goes into that answer, but in a nutshell, hell yes it’s been worth it," she stated.

Motherhood, she said, changed her life "in so many wondrous ways" that she almost wishes she had "done it earlier." However, she noted that when she finally decided to become a mom, it was "the right time" because before that, she "wasn't in a place" to care for a child how she wanted to.

"But for me, I became a mom at the right time because I was healed and I had committed to healing eternally so I didn’t pass all that generational trauma on to Kaav," she shared. "Had I been a day younger, even certainly 10, 15, 20 years before, I would have passed along way too many traumatic things to my child."

"So for me," she continued, "it’s absolutely worth it. She is the best thing that’s ever happened to me."

Union and her husband, Dwyane Wade, welcomed their daughter, Kaavia James, via surrogate in November 2018 when she was 46 and Wade was 36.

In addition to the couple's biological child, the Bring It On alum is also a stepmom to Wade's three children from previous relationships: 21-year-old son Zaire and 16-year-old daughter Zaya, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, and 9-year-old son Xavier, whom Wade shares with Basketball Wives' Aja Metoyer. He is also the legal guardian of his 21-year-old nephew, Dahveon Morris.
