Fun times at the Camp Creek Lumberjack and Ramp Festival

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – A West Virginia delicacy is in season and locals celebrated it this weekend.

Cars full of people came out for the annual Camp Creek Lumberjack and Ramp Festival today. They got to feast on the local leak while they took in a lumberjack competition. The King of the Lumberjacks, Mel Lentz and his son, his presumed successor, came out.

Camp Creek State Park and Forestry Foundation Member, Josephine Lester tells us that the festival is in its 15th year and is a way to celebrate one of the state’s treasured greens. “Well, ramps is one of the West Virginia hidden treasures. They come out in the spring. You can eat them raw. You can eat them, cook, tell everyone. We do a ramp castle Road. And Miss Pam Buchanan is doing a ramp casserole. And Nathan is there cooking them. Then we take them inside, put cheese on them, toasted and serve them up.”

Ramps are popular here in the mountain state and this festival puts an emphasis on their importance in West Virginia culture.
