‘This is a fun little treat’: The NEW Zoo in Green Bay celebrates moms with special giveaways all day
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – At the NEW Zoo in Green Bay, admission to both the zoo and the Canopy Tour is free on Mother’s Day every year.
It’s not uncommon for moms to make an annual family outing for the event, which is what Heidie Schoell from Appleton did with her husband and three kids.
“This is one of my favorite things to do, just going to the zoo together, we’ve done it basically every year for Mother’s Day or close to Mother’s Day to celebrate,” said Schoell. “Mothers deserve a little treat and this is a fun little treat.”

From complimentary plants to tasty sweets, there was no shortage of special surprises and The NEW Zoo and Adventure Park Director said they love celebrating moms because they do so much for their community, so it’s nice to give back.
“We’ve got some free flowers slash tomato plant giveaways for mom, Wery’s is helping us out with that,” explained Carmen Murach. “We’ve got some candy, lots of treats for the moms, but just to see all the people out here on a day like this, the energy level is just so much fun!”
Natalia Hudson and her family drove from two rivers to enjoy the afternoon at the zoo.
She said it was the first time she had gone to the zoo for Mother’s Day but she had the best day spending quality time with her loved ones.

“We just had a celebration with the family, we spent the entire morning with our family and we had breakfast, or brunch I should say,” explained Natalia. “But I’ve enjoyed my day and I got a free tomato!”
Her son Daniel said that while walking around the zoo with family and looking at the animals is fun, being there to celebrate his mom is what makes it so special.
“I’m thankful for everything that she’s done for me throughout my life,” said Hudson. “Taking good care of me and being there for me when I always needed it.”
For more fun for the entire family, the Adventure Park will open the weekend of Memorial Day to the public.
