Fresh Rayne Salon opens on Lake Avenue

Apr. 16—ASHTABULA — Aryn Cochran learned her trade at Aveda Cosmetology School in Columbus and spent four years at a salon there. But the pull of her former home was strong.

Cochran said she decided to move back to Ashtabula because she missed being in her hometown. She said that she feels very comfortable here.

On Monday, Cochran — in conjunction with the Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce — hosted a ribbon-cuttling ceremony to announce the opening of her own business. Fresh Rayne Salon is located at 1310 Lake Ave. The location was previously home to The Avenue salon.

"I genuinely love my community," Cochran said. "I want to give back to them as much as I possibly can. I feel like I've had an overwhelming amount of love and support from the community. Especially on social media platforms. I've had so many people coming in here to see what the place looks like and so many people dropping things off. I feel so loved and I just want to say thank you to everybody."

Cochran said Fresh Rayne will offer a multitude of different services, including hair, eyelashes and grooming.

"I'm absolutely thrilled," said Greater Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Greg Church. "I think it's exciting when you have a young entrepreneur going out there and living their dreams."

Cochran has been doing hair for eight years.

She grew up in Ashtabula and moved to Columbus when she was 18 to attend Aveda. After graduating in 2017, she worked at the salon Akada in Columbus before returning to Ashtabula.

After meeting her fiance here, they purchased a home. Cocchran has a 3-year-old daughter that she says is, "an absolute blessing in my life."

She worked at a local hair salon for five years before deciding to open her own salon.

Cochran said that the salon location was fairly turn-key when she purchased it.

With the help of her family, she was able to quickly paint the interior and make a few changes to the decor.

Chamber officials, members of Ashtabula City Council and the Ashtabula County Commissioners were in attendance for the ribbon cutting.

"It's always great to see young entrepreneurs opening up shop here in the city," said Ashtabula City Manager Jim Timonere. "We welcome them and we're glad they're here. We're hoping the best for her and wish her a lot of success."
