Freeride World Tour To Kick Off In Verbier After Schedule Changes
The Freeride World Tour has announced another alteration to its schedule.
Now, the first event of the season will take place in Verbier, Switerzland—on the imposing Bec des Rosses—instead of Ordino Arcalís, Andorra.
"After careful assessment of the situation, a decision was made by the FWT team to organize the first stop of the season in Verbier, Switzerland in order to kick off the season and take advantage of the good snow conditions in the Alps," the Freeride World Tour wrote in a press released issued today.
The weather window for the Verbier event is January 27 and January 28—the Freeride World Tour bakes wiggle room into its schedule so athletes can enjoy the best visibility and conditions.
The Bec des Rosses usually plays host to the Freeride World Tour finals event, as its terrain is widely considered to be the most challenging and consequential. The venue will still fulfill this role later this winter.
The Freeride World Tour has already faced scheduling challenges in 2024. Earlier this week, the event series announced that its first competition, in Baqueira Beret, Spain, was canceled due to poor snow conditions.
Ordino Arcalís, Andorra, the event set to follow Baqueira Beret in the Freeride World Tour's original calendar, could still happen at the start of next month.
"The organizers are closely tracking the weather forecast in the Pyrenees and keep the option if new precipitations are forecasted within the weather window to organize the Ordino Arcalís Pro during the event's weather window planned from February 1 to 7, 2024," the Freeride World Tour wrote.
