Ski Resort Releases Touching Tribute To Ski Patroller

Titus Mountain in New York was recently the site of an unfortunate chairlift accident on Thursday, resulting in the death of one of their beloved Ski Patrollers.

In a Facebook post addressing the incident, Titus Mountain released an End of Watch Tribute, writing, "Thank you for all of your years of service as a Titus Mountain Ski Patroller, Rick. You will be missed dearly by everyone who had the opportunity to get to know you. Keep the mountains in the sky safe."

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reported that "State troopers responded to Titus Mountain Thursday afternoon after an incident on a chairlift that killed a ski patrol member at the ski resort."

The Ski Patroller, who has been identified as Richard P. Finch, 68, of Malone, was on ski patrol when an accident occurred on the chairlifts, according to an email from Trooper Brandi M. Ashley, New York State Police Troop B’s public information officer.

Finch was pronounced deceased on scene, according to State Police.

Bruce A. Monette III, director of operations at Titus Mountain, gave a brief statement on the death.

“There are no words to describe the sadness felt by the Titus Mountain family. Our deepest condolences go out to our beloved patroller’s family and friends,” he wrote, adding that a thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway, and no further information is available at this time.

Commenters shared their own memories of Rick below the tribute video, writing, "Beautiful tribute to one of my mentors on ski patrol. Rick was one of our go to guys. He may not be skiing with us anymore but his presence will forever be felt by all of us. Rest In Peace my friend."

Another member of the community wrote, "A wonderful tribute to a man that served the public in so many honorable ways. He will be missed. Godspeed Rick."

Our thoughts are with Finch's family and friends, as well as the Titus Mountain community, at this time.
