Scenic RV trip inspires new Fox's Pizza Den location in Petoskey

PETOSKEY — A trip down U.S. 31 will bring you right to the latest addition of new businesses coming to Petoskey: Fox’s Pizza Den.

The new location, which opened in March, is off to a good start, said Jim Fox Jr., who is running the Petoskey location.

A pizza chain based in Pittsburgh, Fox’s Pizza Den has locations throughout Michigan, including Mackinaw City and Battle Creek, with plans to open a location in Cheboygan as well.

Fox's Pizza Den is located at 1208 U.S. 31 in Petoskey.

Fox said that once the pandemic hit, his family started taking more trips in their RV, seeing much of Northern Michigan.

"It's going really well. The people love our pizza,” Fox Jr. said. “Everybody that comes in is very happy. So yeah, I think that it's only going to get better, especially once tourism season kicks off up there.”

The menu matches those of the other restaurants within the chain, he said. The first Fox’s Pizza Den location opened in 1971 in Pittsburgh by Jim Fox, Fox Jr.’s father. Now there are more than 200 locations throughout 17 states.

The Petoskey location, which is housed at 1208 U.S. 31, came with a liquor license with the purchase of the building, so there are plans to try to partner with local breweries to offer limited beer options as well.

Alcohol is not available at the location quite yet, but there are plans to move forward with offering those limited selections, Fox Jr. said.

“People like a pizza and a beer,” he added.

The goal is to have those offerings set by the summer.
