Brandon Hunter, a former NBA player who first gained prominence playing as a forward for Ohio University, has passed away. He was 42.
As of writing, no details surrounding Hunter's cause of death have been shared.
The sad news was confirmed by Ohio University head coach Jeff Boals, who paid tribute to the late player on X (formerly known as Twitter). Sharing a picture of Hunter, Boals wrote, "Sad day for Bobcat Nation. Brandon Hunter, Gone way too soon. One of the best to ever put on the green and white. #RIP."

Many who knew Hunter and interacted with him in the past shared their condolences in the replies.
Sports announcer Michael Reghi wrote, "A terrible shame. Greatly enjoyed talking with Brandon while calling ‘Cats TV games during his time in Athens. Condolences to all who grieve over his loss. @OhioBobcats."
Former NBA point guard T.J. Ford responded to the loss of his friend: "We just spoke last week. Losing a lot of my friends lately."

Hunter shined as a high school basketball player in Cincinnati, Ohio, before playing for Ohio University. He was drafted by the Celtics in 2003, later playing for the Orlando Magic.
Throughout his professional career, which consisted of 67 games over two seasons, Hunter had a career-high of 17 points while playing against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2004.
After his NBA career, Hunter joined various international club teams overseas, playing from 2006 to 2013, when he officially retired.
