Bronny James' Coach Gives 'Hopeful' Update Following His Cardiac Arrest

Bronny James is back in class following his recent cardiac arrest, and his basketball coach, Andy Enfield, is "hopeful" he'll be back on the court soon, too.

"The good thing is he's doing extremely well and he's in class right now. And we all love him," Enfield told ESPN. "I think everybody is hopeful that Bronny will return to the court. We just have to be patient and take it step by step."

The 18-year-old freshman guard—and son of legend Lebron James—collapsed during practice for the USC Trojans in July due to a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect.

Thanks to the quick response by USC athletics’ medical staff, he was quickly resuscitated and transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he arrived "fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable" and was discharged within days. At the time, Lebron sent his gratitude to everyone for their support, stating, "I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I'm so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love."

While the James family did not reveal the specific defect Bronny was diagnosed with, they did note that it is treatable and that they expect him to make a full recovery.

"Our goal is to support Bronny in any way we can academically, athletically, and be patient with how things develop in his return," Enfield added.

"He's a terrific basketball player and was playing very well [before the cardiac arrest]. We all think there is a big upside in his game and he can help our team win," he continued.
