If you’re a back sleeper, Tomshack recommends opting for a mattress with medium firmness, which will help balance and support the spine, while reducing pressure on the hips.

If you tend to sleep on your side, Cavanaugh recommends getting a softer mattress. A mattress that corms to your body will help support your weight and shoulders, which is where most weight is concentrated during rest for side sleepers. Finally, if you’re a stomach sleeper, Cavanaugh recommends opting for a firm mattress, since it’ll keep your spine aligned by preventing your hips and spine from sinking down into the mattress.
