Florida Shelter Dog Returned Because He Was Curious About Family's Cat Is Heart-Wrenching
Adopting a dog from the shelter involves a lot of trust from everyone involved. Not only did you trust the shelter to care for your soon-to-be best friend, but they're also trusting you to raise a happy and healthy canine. Not to mention the trust you'll earn from your new pup!
Every now and then, though, a shelter dog puts their trust in someone who doesn't deserve it. 2-year-old Thane is one of those dogs, and he's back at the Humane Society of Broward County after being adopted for less than 24 hours.
We're not kidding! This mixed-breed dog was returned to the Fort Lauderdale animal rescue on October 5 because he was too interested in his new family's cat. Clearly, this poor pup is heartbroken to be back at the shelter, and we don't blame him at all.

It's comforting to know how many people care about shelter dogs like Thane, even if the owners who had him first weren't those kinds of people.

It could be 3 days before a dog or cat begins to feel safe, while it takes around 3 weeks for them to get used to new routines. By the 3 month mark, you should begin to see more and more of your new adopted dog's personality.
If a dog starts to take interest in a fur sibling like Thane did, it's up to the owners to keep interactions brief. This situation was completely avoidable!
