Florida Shelter in Desperate Need of Fosters After Saving 56 Dogs from Cruelty Case

Last Thursday, Marion County Animal Services in Ocala, Florida, took in 56 dogs from a cruelty case. The shelter put out a plea on Facebook asking for help from the public in caring for these dogs.

The shelter is at critical capacity and is seeking adopters and fosters to help address overcrowding.

The shelter posted on Facebook, "We are reaching out to you, the public, to be the change you want to see in the world. Make a commitment to help a shelter dog, which is the majority of our population. We know some of you have been thinking about adoption. Scared of commitment but want to help? Foster today. "

The shelter sweetly continued their ask with, "give a dog a place to stay for a couple of weeks outside of our shelter. Help us free up some room. Want to help but have other animals? Crate training can make that possible. Tell us about your schedule and home life and we can provide tips to make it work."

Fostering a dog is not only helpful to the shelter to make room for additional dogs who need a place to stay while they wait for their forever home, but it also gives you the opportunity to see if a dog is a good fit for you and your family. It also enables incredible shelters like these to have the resources and manpower needed to help rescue animals from horrific cruelty cases.

What to Do If You Suspect a Cruelty Case

Before you contact your local Humane Society, animal control agency, or the police, try and write down any specific details or observations related to the suspected animal cruelty, including the address of where it was taking place, what time of the day it was, and description of what you say. Whip out your cell phone and take photos and videos of the situation if you feel it is safe to do so.

If you witness direct physical violence to an animal, report the incident immediately to authorities. If you suspect animal hoarding, or if a neighbor has recently moved and abandoned their pets, contact authorities immediately.
